Pain
is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience,
which we primarily associate with tissue damage. The pain
experience is generally initiated in the peripheral nervous
system and processed and interpreted in the central nervous
system. The transmission of pain impulses to the brain is
called nociception.
The
nervous system controls all activities in the body. It is
responsible for receiving information from both inside and
outside of the body, interpreting and coordinating it, and
determining and implementing responses.
